BIO / Spirited Lions

The Spirited Lions are brothers who are of Vietnamese descent. Originally from NYC, they grew up participating and observing large Lunar New Year Celebrations in the New York and Washington DC area where their family is from.

Sons to multi-racial parents, the brothers were first introduced to lion dancing when they traveled to celebrate Lunar New Year with family in the Washington DC Area. Growing up in NYC, they would regularly visit Chinatown to witness many different lion dance teams. Their highlight each year has been to watch lion dancers perform and visit small businesses to bring good blessings for the new year.

What started off as just kids practicing in their parents' house escalated when two of the brothers wrote a letter to their school principal requesting to perform through the hallways of their school. They got their biggest break when they were invited to perform with a large lion dance troupe in Washington DC for a Lunar New Year Celebration in front of thousands of people a few years ago.

Since then, they have performed across the Capital Region and the DC area in school assemblies, classrooms, local libraries, small businesses, corporate events, Asian Festivals, the NY State Capital’s Lunar New Year Celebration and Eden Center’s Annual Lunar New Year Celebration.

They are excited to share their passion for lion dancing with others.
